A Japandi Retreat: The Beauty of Thoughtful Living in a Small Space
Transforming a narrow, four-story townhouse into a warm, elegant, and functional city sanctuary.
Who would have imagined that a long, narrow townhouse could become such a beautiful and inviting home? Located in Manila, this townhouse was thoughtfully designed as a retreat for a family from Davao, providing a comfortable getaway whenever they visit the city, especially while their children attend a nearby college.
Originally acquired as an empty unit, the home was reimagined with the family’s love for Japandi interiors, natural materials, and warm wood finishes in mind. The original staircase balusters were replaced with wooden finishes, and coordinated cabinetry, furniture, and soft neutral textiles were added to create a seamless and harmonious interior.
Furniture, wardrobes, and mirrors inspired by Solihiya style introduce natural textures, while delicate silk lanterns and artworks with subtle gold accents contribute to an atmosphere of understated luxury.
Despite its narrow layout, every space was maximized thoughtfully to achieve a beautiful balance of comfort, functionality, and timeless elegance. This transformation serves as a reminder that great design is not determined by the size of a home, but by the thoughtfulness with which every space is brought to life.
